Matsukaze Matcha by Yamamasa Koyamaen

Soft, refined, and quietly elegant—Matsukaze (meaning “wind through the pines”) is a beautifully balanced matcha that captures the calm, graceful side of Japanese tea culture. Produced in Uji by Yamamasa Koyamaen, this matcha is designed to be enjoyed often—approachable, comforting, and unmistakably premium.

At Ujicha Matcha, we’re proud to be an Official Distributor of Yamamasa Koyamaen products in the United States, bringing these storied teas directly from Japan to your daily ritual. Our curation follows Yamamasa Koyamaen’s “Taste First” philosophy—prioritizing flavor, balance, and drinkability above all else. Matsukaze is a perfect expression of that mindset.

This matcha is wonderfully versatile. Whisk it traditionally with hot water for a smooth, serene cup of usucha, or prepare it as a creamy matcha latte with dairy or plant-based milk. Its gentle profile also makes it ideal for iced matcha, matcha lemonades, or lightly sweetened drinks—never harsh, never overwhelming.

As you sip, you’ll notice:

  • Soft umami and mellow sweetness with very low bitterness
  • Clean, refined finish that feels calming and easy to drink
  • Bright, vibrant green color, a sign of careful cultivation and stone milling
  • Excellent versatility, suited for both traditional whisking and modern café-style drinks
  • Crafted in Uji, Japan by a producer known for consistency, heritage, and quality

What makes Matsukaze special is its quiet confidence. It doesn’t shout—it reassures. It’s the matcha you reach for when you want something dependable yet elevated, whether you’re just beginning your matcha journey or refining an already-loved routine.

Available at Ujicha Matcha, Matsukaze invites you to slow down, taste intentionally, and enjoy matcha the way it was meant to be—rooted in craftsmanship, guided by flavor, and seamlessly woven into everyday life.

About Yamamasa Koyamaen

Yamamasa Koyamaen is a highly respected matcha producer based in Uji, Kyoto, founded in 1861 by the Koyamaen family. For over a century and a half, the family has specialized in the cultivation, processing, and stone-milling of premium Japanese matcha, earning a strong reputation within Japan’s traditional tea ceremony community.

The producer is guided by a strict “Taste First” philosophy, prioritizing flavor, aroma, and balance above all else. Their matcha is crafted from carefully selected tencha leaves, shade-grown and meticulously processed before being slowly stone-milled to preserve vibrant green color, smooth texture, and deep umami. Every stage of production is closely managed to ensure consistency, freshness, and quality.

Many of Yamamasa Koyamaen’s ceremonial-grade matcha are named by tea masters, reflecting their long-standing connection to Japan’s tea culture. Their matcha is widely admired for its refined sweetness, low bitterness, and layered depth, making it a favorite among tea practitioners, cafés, and matcha enthusiasts worldwide. All matcha is produced without additives, emphasizing purity, craftsmanship, and authenticity.
