Babamukashi is the third highest-grade matcha from the esteemed tea maker Kanbayashi Shunsho, and it carries a rich history. Tokugawa Ieyasu had a deep affection for the tea prepared by the mother of the first generation of the Kanbayashi family, fondly calling it Babacha("Grandmother's tea"). In recognition of her skills, he gifted her a tea garden in Wakamori, and the tea harvested there was named Babamukashi. This prestigious name is reserved exclusively for the Kanbayashi family.
